They make great wines that they offer in an intimate setting. Del Dotto Vineyards: 1055 Atlas Peak Rd. Napa Wines: Cab Sau, Cab Franc, Merlot, Sangiovese, Petit Sirah, Zin. Notes: Gallery, Tours, Tastings, Caves. Notes: Their caves on Atlas Peak Road are some of the oldest in Napa, built by the architect of Inglenook and Greystone. Del Dotto takes a very hands on approach and tastings are by their style a tour. They love to show how various barrels influence the flavors of the wine. Both wineries, old and new are remarkable in their own ways. They wines are very popular and draw a lot of repeat visitors. Page 119

Notes: They are perched on the side of the hill above some very famous wineries, Harlan Estate, Far Niente and To Kalon. They have some of the best views of the Napa Valley so bring your camera. They are on a road that connects the Napa and Sonoma Valleys and they are just below the group of mansions that are the home of the actor Robin Williams. The staff is nice, the wines are better every year, and sourced from both there and Diamond Mountain in the northern part of the Valley, and they have a great picnic area. Bring a picnic too! Can be ordered by the glass. Notes: This destination winery is convenient to San Francisco. It is part of Taittinger (The French Champagne House) specializing in elegant Sparkling Wines. The building, which is wonderful, is based on their villa in France, with extensive patios & gorgeous tasting rooms. It is suitable for large groups, although it is a good idea to call ahead. Tastings are done sitting down either inside or outside on the patios with great views of Caneros. It may be the nature of pouring sparkling wines but they have one of the nicest tasting room staffs found in Napa. Wines: Brut, Blanc de Noirs, Rosé, Sparkling Chard, Blanc de Blancs, Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier, Chard, Unoaked Pinot Noir Rosé, Unoaked Chard. Notes: They were the first of the European sparkling wine companies to invest in Napa, building a state of the art winery when the only local industry, other than a few wineries, was the military retirement home. The restaurant, Etoile, a very elegant place, is part of the property. Their patio is a great place to end the day, and being the only winery in Napa that includes a restaurant, their patio turns from a tasting room into a bar after a certain hour.
